NJ Lending Program
The Adaptive Technology Center's lending program provides a trial period for New Jersey Colleges and Universities to borrow adaptive technology for students.
It is a short-term loan program, with most equipment being loaned for a period of one semester, to determine if a particular technology tool is helpful.
The Adaptive Technology Center's Loan Program is available only to students enrolled in New Jersey Colleges or Post-secondary institutions.
New Jersey college students who would like to take part in the adaptive loan program must:
- Identify yourself to your college's Disabilities Support Office
- Provide the required documentation to your DS Office
Their funding agency, the New Jersey Commission on Higher Education, established the equipment loan program to assist colleges in their efforts to provide accommodations to students with disabilities. The loan supports the student, while giving the borrowing institution time to purchase the items for on-going use. These items represent "reasonable accommodations" under the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act.

A Typical Loan Process from Start to Finish
- A New Jersey college student must first contact their Disability Support Office at the New Jersey College or University they are attending.
- The Disability Support Office will then, if they have not already done so, fill out a College Lending Agreement and mail/email/fax the completed form to the Adaptive Technology Center.
- The student will then complete a Student Lending Agreement and mail/email/fax/drop off the completed form to the Adaptive Technology Center.
- The Disability Support Office will then contact the Adaptive Technology Center to discuss options.
- The staff of the Adaptive Technology Center will work with the Disability Support Office and the student to find appropriate assistive technology to meet the student's academic needs.
- Arrangements will then be made for the equipment to be picked up.
- At the end of the semester, the Disability Support Office must make sure the student returns the equipment before leaving for semester break.
- The Disability Support Office will then return the equipment to the Adaptive Technology Center.
- The student will then fill out a Loan Evaluation Form and mail/email/fax/drop off the completed form to the Adaptive Technology Center.
- If the student will need to use the equipment again, the Disability Support Office should budget to purchase the item for their college.
