The internet has become an extremely important resource for locating current assistive technology resources.  The staff of the Adaptive Technology Center has located key websites that focus on specific issues and products concerning the ever changing world of assistive technology.  Please visit the following websites to deepen your understanding of the role of assistive technology in ensuring academic success for ALL students.

Assistive Technology Industry Association (ATIA)

A not-for-profit membership organization of companies that manufacture or sell technology-based assistive devices for people with disabilities or provide services associated with or required by people with disabilities. Among its primary goals is the establishment and continuation of an assistive device technology conference on an annual basis. http://www.atia.org

Assistive Technology Training Online Project (ATTO)

The ATTO Project at University at Buffalo has devised online tutorials that include step-by-step instructions to print out and/or display as a slide show for group instruction and practice exercises that let you practice and master new skills using actual classroom examples.   Their website also contains an AT decision-making module, AT basics module, and extensive links to valuable AT resources. http://atto.buffalo.edu/registered/Tutorials.php

Association on Higher Education and Disability (AHEAD)

An international, multicultural organization of professionals committed to full participation in higher education for persons with disabilities. http://www.ahead.org

Center for Applied Special Technology (CAST)

A non-profit organization whose mission is to expand opportunities for people with disabilities through innovative multimedia computer technology. http://www.cast.org

Center for Electronic Studying

A Center for investigating ways computer technology can be used to enhance students' efforts to study and learn content-area material. Closing the Gap

National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped

Voice mail system. Operators provide information on audiocassette, large print, and Braille books and magazines for recreational reading. Callers with learning disabilities must meet certain guidelines to use these services. http://www.loc.gov/nls

Onion Mountain Technology

Onion Mountain Technology believes that every student has the right to be as independent and successful as possible, and that there are tools, techniques, and strategies that can help kids learn and grow to the best of their abilities. Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic, Inc

Operators provide information on over 80,000 recorded textbooks and other classroom materials, from 4th grade through postgraduate levels, available for loan. Callers with learning disabilities are eligible to participate but must complete the certification requirements. http://www.rfbd.org

Schwab Learning

Schwab Learning, a program area of the Charles and Helen Schwab Foundation, is dedicated to helping kids with learning differences be successful in learning and life. The Schwab Learning web site provides reliable, research-based information and guidance. Developed especially for parents of children who are newly identified as having a learning difference, it is designed to be a parent's "guide" through the new and unfamiliar landscape of LD. http://www.schwablearning.org

Southern Connecticut State University Center for Adaptive Technology

Southern Connecticut State University's Center for Adaptive Technology provides technology access solutions for people with visual, physical, and learning disabilities. Their mission is to help students become independent computer users and to ensure access to the same technology other students use to achieve their educational goals.   Their website contains valuable links to assistive technology products, conferences and resources, as well as assistive technology terms and definitions. http://www.southernct.edu/departments/cat/

The Office for Civil Rights (OCR) in the U.S. Department of Education has prepared a pamphlet to inform  students with disabilities about their rights and responsibilities and the responsibilities that postsecondary  schools have towards them.  This pamphlet explains the obligations of a postsecondary school to provide  academic adjustments, including auxiliary aids and services, to ensure that the school does not discriminate on the basis of disability. http://www.ed.gov/ocr/transition.html

TCNJ Library's Accessibility & Assistive Technology Tools

New Jersey Organizations

New Jersey Commission on Higher Education: Special Needs Regional Centers

A system of seven regional centers that provide support services for college students with special needs, such as learning disabilities, visual impairments and deafness and hearing impairments.
